JOIST SPECIALISTS MODERN METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION DESIGN, MANUFACTURE, INSTALL

TIMBER PAK SW LTD – JOIST SPECIALIST MANUFACTURER

TIMBER PAK SW Ltd not only manufacturer fantastic quality timber frames, we now also design and manufacturer in our factory in Ivybridge, metal web Posi-joists with our brand new Mitek Posi-strut runner and Posi-joist machine.

Posi-Joist combines the lightness of timber with the strength of the Posi-Strut steel web to produce a floor and roof system allowing you to span far greater distances than would be possible with alternative timber products.

This gives you unequalled design freedom across a wide range of applications for both floor and roof in domestic, industrial and commercial applications. The Posi-Joist allows a variety of internal room layouts within an external shell due to its clear spanning capabilities.

Easy access for the installation and maintenance of services in the floor zone is the clear advantage of the Posi-Joist system, and with the ever increasing need for MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery) systems, Posi-Joist provides a perfect and simple solution that just isn’t possible with alternative solid timber products.

Open web floor joists are tailored and conform to the National Building Code standards and reduced vibrations standards. They are factory made with quality kiln dry wood and certified galvanized metal connectors under strict quality control. A personalized job pack is created using PAMIR, which is given to our factory team to produce the metal web joists.

The floor joists must be designed to withstand these loads and to absorb vibrations that can be created by them.

Open web floor joists allow for quick installation and facilitate the installation of mechanical services (electrical, plumbing, heating) in the thickness of the floor. They can be supported by the top chord, thus eliminating the hangers and allowing beams to be concealed in the floor thickness and non-exposed. They can be designed with a multitude of possibilities such as an adjustable extremity for precise length adjustment on-site.

INDUSTRY LEADING JOIST DESIGN TECHNOLOGY

We design all of our joists on PAMIR, which is MiTek’s industry leading Roof Truss and Posi-Joist design software.  PAMIR combines Layout, Engineering, Output and 3D tools into a single fully integrated application, replacing what were traditionally separate programs with one.

BENEFITS OF METAL WEB JOISTS

Due to their increased strength, you will benefit from greater flexibility in their spans. Effectively, they can achieve longer spans whilst potentially avoiding the necessity of load bearing internal walls which in turn can reduce the overall cost of build.

Metal Web Joists are manufactured to size in house and so on-site alterations are not required.

An open web structure allows plenty of space for services which eliminates the need for drilling or notching. This structure can also accommodate larger services such as Mechanical Heat Ventilation Recovery systems.

As previously mentioned, there are no on-site alterations which also allow for speed of installation. Posi-Joists can also be top chord supported – reducing the amount of metalwork required.

Metal Web Joists use less timber than I-Joists, impacting positively on the environment. As Joist are made to measure within our factory, there is no onsite wastage to worry about!

Despite their robust design, Metal Web Joists are lightweight making them easier to handle on site. This can save builders the expense of hiring a crane on site to install them. Metal Webb Joists are actually 40% lighter than equivalent solid joists.

The addition of rigid strong backs (timber beams which act as a secondary support to the Metal Web Joists) can reduce vibration and therefore improve sound performance. This would not be possible to implement with traditional joists.

The Metal Web Joists contain less prefabricated timber and so retain little water after production. This results in reduced risk of shrinkage and ultimately allows for greater stability.

A larger bearing surface area allows for easier fixing of flooring and ceiling materials.
